Residential Generators
Installation and Operation
Your KOHLER® residential backup generator system can be sized and wired for your home in one of two power distribution scenarios:

Essential Loads Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario isolates and supplies electrical power only to those essential devices that must function during a power interruption. Examples of devices and appliances that may be considered essential are:
  • Furnace
  • Lighting
  • Sump Pump
  • Refrigerator/freezer
  • Security system
These devices are wired through a secondary, or essential loads, distribution panel. This allows a smaller generator to be used.
Whole House Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario enables the homeowner to power all devices within the home with the generator, as if they were using normal utility power.
